Since 2013, Rhonda has assisted over 30 different organizations as an independent grant consultant. Prior to that, she wrote grants for five years through her work as a development director for a YMCA association.
The focus areas vary greatly and include agriculture, capital improvements, diverse and underrepresented populations, economic/workforce development, health and wellness, hunger alleviation, musical arts, people with disabilities, primary and secondary education, and youth development.
Rhonda’s expertise exceeded my expectations and her wordsmithing was far beyond my abilities to articulate our business needs. I had previously applied for two [USDA] grants, both of which were unsuccessful. [This round,] we were partially awarded grant funds to purchase our walk-in freezer/refrigerator unit!!
Her character, collaboration, style, and work ethic are unmatched.
I highly recommend Rhonda for anyone seeking expert assistance in securing grant funding for their projects. She has helped set up for success by creating templates we can use to submit on our own but has also been available to write proposals fully. Her knowledge of what funders are looking for is exceptional, and she has been an amazing asset in helping us to write competitive grant applications.
I began working with Rhonda in 2009. There were unique, unmet needs in our NC community relating to cancer survivorship, inclusion for youth with disabilities and childhood obesity. Rhonda spearheaded the grant research, writing and submittal deadlines for related grants. Because of her efforts and clear description of our effective programs, we secured grant funds amidst difficult economic times. More recently, Rhonda has worked with our organization in Tennessee to secure large capital, youth development, and hunger alleviation grants. From start to finish, she has been an incredible asset to my YMCA fundraising journey.
We have enjoyed working with Rhonda to secure funding to support our programs. Her ability to organize Requests for Proposals and clearly describe our dedication to the Bay Area’s women of color has been a true asset to our fundraising efforts. We appreciate her energy for keeping us on task with deadlines during ongoing program activity.
Rhonda brings a great deal of knowledge, professionalism and strong GPC standards to the grant writing process. She works effectively with nonprofits to collect data and information, provide advice for how to improve weaknesses in any given proposal, and generally makes the process of developing high quality proposals a real breeze for nonprofit staff. She is also a pleasure to work with – she is genuine, stands by her word, sticks to tight deadlines, and has a strong sense of business ethics. I recommend Rhonda to any nonprofit organization interested in building their institutional fundraising program and winning grants!
Rhonda has successfully articulated our program strength in a time-sensitive funding environment. She has worked alongside our staff, matching our board’s organizational goals with those of external funders. Her passion to serve our students shines through, keeping their needs at the forefront of each request she authors.
Rhonda is one of the most ethical people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Coupled with her mesmerizing attention to detail, [this] makes her the perfect person to assist with past and future grants.
The world of fundraising is extremely confusing to someone who never performed this function. We needed a grant to install a new heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system. But the big question was: how do I navigate through the myriad of information? How do I create the right appeal for our non-profit? It turned out to be simple… The Dry Dock [a 365-day-a-year recovery support community] selected Rhonda Poppen at GrantDog after analyzing available fundraisers. I am grateful to Rhonda for her patience and guidance throughout the process. Under her direction we were led to the ultimate funder. We are definitely going to request her help with future grant projects.
Rhonda has been a true asset to our rural and small communities. Bringing a passion for the work, enthusiasm, and patience to teach, mentor, and assist our communities and small businesses. We could not ask for a better partner. North Central WA is lucky to have her skills, knowledge, and drive.
